Varietal characteristics

• High yielding variety; base of the stem is light green and erect.
• Leaf is deep green with tendril.
• Seed coat colour is gray.1000-seed weight is 22-23 g.
•  Protein content in seed is 32-33% and dal 89%.
• Maturity period is 100-105 days

Land and Soil

Lentil can be cultivated in loam ‍and clay-loam soils. It is necessary to select high and well drained land. Pabna, Natore, Kushtiya, Jessore, Faridpur, Rajshahi, Chapainowabganj are suitable for Binamasur-9 cultivation.

Land preparation

Three to four ploughing and laddering is needed to prepare the soil.  Weeds and stables should be removed from the soil for well preparation of the land.

Sowing time

The last week of October to second week of November is the optimum time for sowing. Late sowing leads to lower the yield.

Seed rate

Fourteen to sixteen kilogram seed is needed for broadcast method. For line sowing two kilogram of seed will be saved. There should be  laddering after sowing to cover the seeds. It is  easy to  do intercultural operation in line sowing condition. Distance between line should be 30 cm and 5-6 cm from plant to plant.

Seed treatment

Healthy and disease free seed ensure optimum yield. It is better to use 2.5-3.0g Provax 200 for per kilogram of seed.

Fertilizer dose and application  method 

Per hectare: Urea: 30-35 kg, TSP: 80-90 kg, MOP: 30- 35kg, Zypsum 25-30kg and Zinc: 2-3kg, Boron: 1-1.5 kg

Method of application:

Full doses of fertilizer should be applied before last ploughing. Fertilizer dose can be varied depending on fertility of the land.

 Irrigation and drainage

There should be a good drainage system so that excessive rainfall could not be stand in the field. Normally no need for irrigation in lentil but in excessive drought there should be one irrigation. 

Weeding

Weeding is needed after 25-30 days when seedling is emerged and thinning is done with weeding.

Disease and insect management

Seed should be treated with Provax 200, 2.5-3.0g for one kilogram of seed for foot rot and Rovral-50 (0.2%) WP should be sprayed three times with 10 days interval immediately after initiation of the disease. For controlling rust disease tilt-250EC (o.04%) is sprayed 2-3times with 12-15 days interval. Morover, insect infestation is less in this variety but in attack Ripcord 10EC/Subicron can be sprayed as per dose for good result. 

Seed yield per hectare

Average seed yield is 2.2 t/ha and maximum seed yield is 2.3 t/ha .
